Honest about what really ran

A release that makes the app honest when a repair never ran or a reading could not be taken, checks that Windows services really stop and start during repairs, makes undo put back the hosts file and the Windows Search folder permissions, and says plainly what a report includes.

• When a health check cannot read the hosts file, the scan no longer ends by saying everything looks fine. It says the file could not be read this scan, a PC with no hosts file at all now reads as clean, and when a scan cannot confirm a reading, its closing message names which one. The note about an outdated Windows Defender platform now says the virus-definition age could not be confirmed when that age is unknown.
• When security software is likely protecting the hosts file, the app now leads with steps to add an exclusion for it, says a hosts file repair will probably fail until the exclusion is in place, and reminds you to remove it afterward. A hosts file repair now counts as verified only after the file has been read again, and a refused one no longer leads to an unrelated next step.
• When Windows refuses to start a repair, even a single one, the app now gives one plain explanation instead of a raw Windows error and keeps the repair ready to try again. It no longer offers an undo for a repair that never ran or calls it an attempted fix: History shows no Undo button for it, the saved report records it as refused rather than failed, and the Insights timeline lists it as not started.
• Repairs that stop and restart a Windows service now check that each service really stopped or started, skip steps that depend on a service that did not stop, restart what they stopped when they cannot finish, and report a partial result instead of a clean success. The repair that turns off unneeded background services now really does so, and its undo puts back each service's startup type. The file permission repair no longer calls a step done when it was stopped for running too long.
• Undo after a hosts file repair now puts back the hosts file as it was just before the repair, checking the file before and after restoring it. Undo after the Windows Search permissions repair restores the folder permissions saved just before the change. Undo for both stays partial, with the restore point made before the fix as the fallback.
• The Send to IT and feedback windows now say plainly what a report includes. Reports to your organization include this PC's name and a non-reversible device id, and a feedback report includes your description, the app version, a scan reference and anything you attach, plus an anonymous usage id and device id when anonymous usage sharing is on.
