Change settings by asking
The settings-control train: SimpleFixAI can now change Windows settings for you on request, not just tell you what they are, and every change it makes is verified and reversible.
- Change Windows settings just by asking. Where a setting has a safe, allow-listed value, the app makes the change, reads Windows back to confirm it actually took, and records it in History so you can undo it with one click. It only ever sets values from a vetted list; anything it cannot change safely and reversibly it leaves alone and explains instead of pretending.
- Change your default sound output just by asking, for example 'switch my sound to my headphones'. The app makes the change, then reads Windows back to confirm your system, media, and call audio all moved to the device you picked. If Windows does not keep the change, it puts your previous device back on its own, and the switch is reversible from History with one click.
- Chat replies no longer hang. Every answer now has a time budget, so if the local AI is taking too long you get an honest 'this is taking longer than expected' instead of a frozen screen. You can stop a reply while it is being written, and stopping it on purpose is never reported as a timeout.
- The Settings page now shows honestly why GPU acceleration is off and how to enable it. If your PC could run the AI on its graphics card but is not, the app explains the reason in plain words and what to do about it, instead of quietly falling back to the processor and leaving you to wonder why things feel slow.
- SimpleFixAI now recognizes AI model files you already have instead of asking you to download them again when your PC is busy. When free memory was temporarily low, the app could hide an installed model and offer to re-download a smaller one it did not actually have; it now loads the model you already have and, if memory is tight, just notes the first answer may take a little longer.
- A working internet connection is no longer misread as broken on PCs with gaming or traffic-prioritization network software. The app trusts the evidence of a live network gateway instead of flagging a false fault.
- Snapshot history now prunes itself to the documented most-recent 20 automatically. Every repair still takes a safety snapshot you can undo from, but the store no longer grows without limit; snapshots older than the newest 20 are cleaned up on app start, exactly as the app has always promised.
- The app's internal debug and watchdog logs no longer grow without bound. They rotate at a fixed size and keep only a few recent files, so they can never quietly fill up your disk.
- The feedback box no longer covers the app. It is a movable panel you can drag out of the way and close with Escape, and it never blocks what you were doing.
- Installer updates and AI model downloads are more reliable, with stronger integrity checks so a partial or mismatched file is caught rather than used.
- Behind the scenes, internal test-suite calibration for the nightly checks, plus a small reporting fix so the new sound-output control is counted correctly in the time-saved summary.
